When I applied for a residency at Palais des Paris in Takasaki, Japan, I proposed two very different projects. The first one was a huge series of 2000 abstract drawings that was easy for a Japanese audience to interpret in their own terms. And my second idea was to bring everything I published so far and to work on a way to display and explain my work as an artist publisher. Because Frédéric Weigel and his partner Yoshiko Suto are very keen on mediating the work of French artists to a Japanese audience, they preferred the second option.
While I was staying there, I became obsessed with the kanji 本 that means book or library when placed on a sign that I used on a number of different surfaces. I wanted to produce a publication on the spot, and I had quite a lot of trouble printing this one on origami paper. Only 60 of them were made, they are all different as the colours are random.
